Das Armscote Manor befindet sich in der wunderschönen Landschaft von Warwickshire und beherbergt die Armscote-Herde von Portland und Black Welsh Mountain Sheep. Deborah von Armscote Manor hat eine Herde seltener britischer Portland-Schafe und einige Black Welsh Mountain Sheep, die sie seit 25 Jahren züchtet. Vor einigen Jahren begann sie mit der Produktion von DK Wolle (Double Knit) aus britischer ungefärbter 100% Wolle. Die Vliese werden in Launceston, Cornwall, von Natural Fibre verarbeitet.

Ihr kleiner Betrieb befindet sich am Rande der Cotswolds. Das Haus wurde 1603 von einem Wollhändler, John Halford, gebaut und es ist einfach wunderbar,  auf dem Grundstück wieder Schafe zu haben.

Portland ist die älteste bekannte Schafrasse in England und wurde im Doomsday Book erwähnt. Sie lebte ursprünglich auf der Isle of Portland an der Südküste Englands in den Salzwiesen. Durch das Lanolin in ihren Vliesen sind sie u.a. sehr geeignet für das Stricken von Fishermens Sweaters. Die Wolle hat eine lange Lebensdauer und ist wasserabweisend, was sie absolut nachhaltig macht.

Deborah from Armscote Manor has a flock of British rare breed Portland sheep and a few Black Welsh Mountain Sheep which she has been breeding for 25 years.  A few years ago she started to produce DK (double knit) balls of British, Rare Breed, undyed 100% wool. The fleeces are processed in Launceston, Cornwall, by Natural Fibre.

Her small holding is on the edge of the Cotswolds and the house was built by a Wool Merchant, John Halford, in 1603 and it seems rather wonderful to again have sheep on the property.  

Portland are the oldest known breed of sheep in England and were mentioned in the Doomsday Book.  They originally lived on the Isle of Portland on the South Coast of England living on Salt marshes.  The lanolin in their fleeces made them suitable for making fishermen’s sweaters.  The wool has longevity and is water resistant making it totally sustainable.
